TURLOCK -- Christin Gowan equaled her career high and the Warriors held off the visitors as Cal State Stanislaus defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 62-56, Saturday night at Fitzpatrick Arena.

Gowan knocked in 24 points, 17 of them came in the first half, to help the Warriors improve to 10-8 overall and 8-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Katie Busi was held down in the first half but finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for her 32nd career double-double.

Nikki Boutte scored 13 and Ashley Hudson had 12 to pace the Toros, now 3-15 overall and 3-11 in the CCAA.

"Christin (Gowan) was huge for us, scoring in variety of ways," CSUS head coach Sharon Turner said. "She stepped it up ways seniors are supposed to do."

With the win, and Humboldt State's 63-61 loss to UC San Diego, the Warriors now move into sole possession of sixth place in the CCAA standings.

Saturday night, Gowan was the spark plug, especially in the first half. Gowan was 5 of 8 from the field, 2-for-5 behind the arch and nailed 5 of 6 free throws for 17 first-half points. Gowan, and Rosa Tirado who was 3-for-3 for eight points, gave the Warriors a 36-31 halftime lead.

The Warriors led by as many as 12 points with 4:32 left to play in the first half.

Cal State Stanislaus, however, went cold to start the second half, missing its first 12 attempts. Fortunately for the Warriors, Cal State Dominguez Hills didn't do much scoring either as the Toros managed eight points for a slim two-point lead.

The Warriors managed to edge out to a seven-point, 59-52, lead with an 8-0 run that was capped by a pair of Gowan free throws at 3:42. During that run, Jeanette Rowe hit two jumpers and Busi converted on a shot just inside the arch.

CSUDH came as close at three points a minute later on a Hudson layup and two free throws by Sherrie Hughes, but the Warriors held on by converting on some free throws of their own.

Busi, who was held to two points on 1-for-6 shooting in the first half, finally put up some points in the second  half to finish with 10 points. She now has 1,249 career points, moving her up to third on the CSUS top-10 scorers list.
