Warriors' great effort resulted in a tough loss to L.A.

Box Score TURLOCK — In yet another great display of team work and excellent effort, the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team came up short in a five-set loss to Cal State L.A. Friday night.

Cal State L.A. held off a surging Warrior team late in the match before pulling off the 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-13. The Golden Eagles improved to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Warriors, after the heartbreak loss, fall to 6-12 and 3-7 in the CCAA.

Andrea Fett had 14 kills and 10 digs to lead Stanislaus. Jennifer Marsh added 12 kills and two Warriors -- Melissa Bishop and Janay Bankston -- each had eight. Ashley Pittman recorded 24 digs and Kendal Munoz had 41 assists. Bishop and Bankston each stuff six total shots.

After going down two sets to one, the Warriors caught fire in set number four. The rally started with the Golden Eagles leading 7-5 and with Pittman serving, the Warriors rolled off six straight points for a 11-7 lead. After a sideout, the rally continued with Stanislaus eventually led by as much as 12 points at 22-10.

Cal State L.A. held off Stanislaus set point six times. The Warriors took a 24-12 lead but L.A. scored six straight points to make it 24-18. Marsh finally put away the set with a kill to set-up the decisive fifth.

The Golden Eagles took off to an early lead in the fifth, at 7-4, but Stanislaus roared back to tie it at 10-10 and then at 12-12. Two Marquis Mora kills turned the tide in favorite of Cal State L.A. before the match ended on a block by Mora and Kymberly Silveyra.

Mora finished with a match-high 19 kills and six total blocks. Sha also had four service aces.

Eva Chafeh helped out with 17 digs and Jaclyn Pinasco had 11 digs with two aces.
