Two long, tight sets lead to Warriors' win over HSU

Box Score ARCATA — Two tight sets turned out in favor of the Warriors as Cal State Stanislaus beat Humboldt State in straight sets, 27-25, 27-25, 25-20, at Lumberjack Arena on Saturday.

Cal State Stanislaus spoiled the home team's homecoming day festivities with volleyball and football as the Warriors improved to 7-14 overall and 4-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. With the Warriors sweeping the season series over the Lumberjacks, HSU remains winless in CCAA play at 0-13 (2-18 overall).

Andrea Fett led the Warriors with 14 kills -- her 10th consecutive double-digit kill game and her third 14-kill (her jersey number) match in the last five contests. Jennifer Marsh added eight kills, Melissa Bishop had seven and Janay Bankston chipped in six kills.

Kendal Munoz dished off 32 assists with two service aces.

Ashley Pittman had 17 digs, Bishop stuffed four blocks and Marsh blocked three to lead the defensive effort.

The Warriors rallied from behind to win set one after holidng off five HSU set points starting at 24-19. Kills by Marsh and Bankston ended the set in favor of Stanislaus. Set two also went to 27-25 in another tight battle. After HSU lead at 23-22, three more ties followed until a bad set by the Jacks and a service ace by Eva Chafeh to give Stanislaus set two.

The third was a little easier for Stanislaus as the Warriors led 21-15 and scored four of the final six points for the win.
