SAN RAFAFEL —
Lauren Godde became the first Warrior to score 39 points in more than nine years but it wasn't enough as host Dominican held on to edge a surging Cal State Stanislaus women's team in a 93-91 contest Saturday afternoon.
In the team's regular season opener, the Warriors were up to the challange on the road at the Conlan Center in a tight contest. The Warriors trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half but key three-pointers in the final three minutes got them right back in the game.

Natalie Winters's three-pointer with a trey at 3:01 to go to make it 85-83, Godde's layup at 2:10 helped Stanislaus stay in the game. Godde, who did most of her damage in the paint, made two consecutive three-pointers of her own to tie the game at 91-91 with 14 seconds left.
However, with one second to go, a foul called against the Warriors sent Dominican's Yvonne Sanchez to the line. Sanchez converted both free throws for the final count.
Godde was 13 of 22 from the field and made 11 of her 15 free throw attempts for her totals. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Godde's 39-point out-pour was the most points scored by a Warrior since March 7, 2003, when Shannon Donnelly scored 41 against Cal Poly Pomona.
Erin Godde pulled a team-best nine rebounds to go with nine points and four assists.
Devin Brown netted 14 points and Winters finished with 11 points and four assists.
Dominican, now 1-2, was led by Sarah Nelson's 26-point, 13-rebound, 7-block effort. Kimi Nakamura added 22 points with four three-pointers for the Penguins.
With little time to rest, Cal State Stanislaus now will prepare for its home and conference opener on Tuesday when the Warriors host Chico State at Fitzpatrick Arena. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
