Warriors suffer loss at Simon Fraser

Box Score BURNABY, B.C. — Simon Fraser used a 15-2 run to begin the second half to turn a relatively close game into a rout as Cal State Stanislaus lost the first of two games north of the borders, 95-52, Friday night.

Nayo Rincock-Ekunwe had 22 points and 15 points to lead Simon Fraser as the Clan improved to 5-1. Erin Chambers scored 20 points and Kia Van Laare chipped in 16 for SFU.

Lauren Godde led the Warriors with 17 points, but Stanislaus fell to 0-3 this season and lost by large margins for the second time in four days. Godde was 6 for 17 and made both of her three-point attempts. She also had three steals. However, just as the team was struggling to rebound, Godde only pulled two.

Simon Fraser out-rebounded the Warriors 44-28 with a 15-6 margin on offensive boards. SFU was makings its 2012-13 home debut. The game was also the first Division II game for the program at home as Canada's first full fledged members of the NCAA.

Lauren Lilly led Cal State Stanislaus with six rebounds to go with nine points off the bench. Erin Godde chipped in seven points and pulled five rebounds.

Cal State Stanislaus stayed close in the first half against a much bigger and experienced SFU team. A Lauren Godde trey at 5:36 in the first half made it 28-25 Simon Fraser.

But the Clan used a 10-2 run to close out the half for an 11-point, 38-27, lead. Back-to-back three-pointers by Chambers got SFU going in the second half to spur the run en route to the lopsided game.

These two teams will play again Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Simon Fraser, which is located just outside of Vancouver, B.C.
