Box Score TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team made great strides on Friday in a tough conference game before Humboldt State pull away in the second half. In the end, the Lumberjacks took a 72-56 win at Fitzpatrick Arena.
Lauren Godde had another double-double night with 19 points and 13 rebounds before the Warriors fell to 0-5 on the season. They are also 0-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
However, unlike the 36-point conference loss to Chico State in the home opener last Tuesday, the Warriors put up a great fight on Friday. They were within single digits in the first half, and after early leads, trailed by just three after a
Katie Staack triple at 8:18 to go. A late 7-2 run by HSU gave the Jacks a 32-25 lead at the break.
Cal State Stanislaus trailed by as many as 16 six minutes into the second half but battled back. A pair of
Molly Farrar free throws and back to back buckets by
Natalie Winters and
Devin Brown made it a 48-41 game halfway into the second half.
But Humboldt State (5-2, 2-0 CCAA) pulled away behind free thorws mixed in by some timely baskets to pull away.
Lisa Petty led the way with 24 points with 10 of those from the free throw line. Caitie Richards added 15 and Kelly Kime had 11. HSU shot 56 percent in the second half to counter the Warriors' 43.3 second half field goal percentage.
Brown finished with eight points for the Warriors,
Erin Godde had seven with
Natalie Winters chippining in six.
Lauren Godde, who enters the week leading the CCAA in scoring, recorded her second double-double this season.
