Warriors beat Toros again behind Godde's 'big' night

2/17/2012 7:27:00 PM

Box Score CARSON — At 6-foot-1, Lauren Godde is the tallest player on the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team this season. But don't tell her she's too small to play center.

Godde was monsterous in the paint on Friday as she led the Warriors to a 64-61 victory at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The sophomore 'center' grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds -- 17 of them defensively -- to go with her game-high 15 points. She helped the Warriors end an eight-game losing streak to improve to 6-17 overall and 3-16 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus has now won five straight games against the Toros. The last time the Warriors won a game before Friday night was against the same Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros team in Turlock on Jan. 14.

Godde, who entered the week No. 3 in the CCAA in rebounding at 9.3 per game, matched the season's top rebounding total turned in in the conference (Cal State East Bay's Marlene MacMillan pulled 19 on Jan. 7 against San Francisco State). Godde has now grabbed double-digits in rebounding for the third straight game and has done so 12 times this year.

Godde nailed a three-pointer at 5:33 left to go to give Stanislaus a seven-point lead before Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-23, 2-17 CCAA) made a charge late. Zipporah Brown scored six straight points to cut the CSUS lead down to one with 3:31 left to play. Down to their final five players (Jameiz Terrell and Rosa Tirado fouled out), the Warriors went back up by three on two Briana Cotton free throws.

A pair of Toro free throws, with 35 seconds left, again made it an one-point game. But a pair of Molly Farrar free throws with 10 ticks remaining gave the Warriors the win.

Terrell chipped in with 13 points and Erin Godde scored 10 and had eight rebounds to contribute. Devin Brown also knocked in 10 points.

Zipporah Brown led CSUDH with 12 points with no Toro grabbing more than six rebounds as Stanislaus out-rebounded Dominguez Hills, 40-33.
