Box Score TURLOCK -- The six-player squad of the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team held its own on Thursday as the Warriors fought hard before losing to Cal State East Bay, 61-51.
The game was actually a lot closer than the final score would indicate with Stanislaus within two points in the final minutes. East Bay nailed a few free throws for the final results as the Pioneers improved to 12-15 overall and 9-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus falls to 6-19 overall and 3-18 in the CCAA.
Jameiz Terrell led with 19 points,
Lauren Godde had 11 points and nine rebounds while
Erin Godde grabbed 10 rebounds.
Despite its low in numbers, Stanislaus put up a fight early, turning a four-point deficit into a four-point lead during a four-minute span with a 12-4 run, capped by a
Briana Cotton three-pointer.
The Pioneers would regain control and led the rest of the first half before a 35-30 halftime score. However, East Bay, 6-2 in its last eight games, was never able to pull away. The Pionners, vying for a CCAA tournament spot, managed to hold a five-point lead several times in the second half, including a 45-40 advantage at 8:36 on a Lauren Lucchesi three-pointer.
The Warriors, however, answered back with a 6-0 run that was sparked by another Cotton trey to gain a 51-50 lead at 4:48 left to go.
But the final field goal of the game, which came at 2:07 left, by East Bay's Brianna Terrance turned out to be the end of the Stanislaus run. A couple of CSUS missed shots and turnovers later, it became a free throw game and CSUEB used it to turn the close game into a 10-point win.
The Stanislaus women will host their final game Friday night, on Senior Night, when Cal State Monterey Bay visits.
