Stanislaus, East Bay men play to scoreless draw

Box Score TURLOCK — There were a lot of soccer action, plenty of shots by the home team in 110 minutes of play, but the Warriors and Cal State East Bay played to a 0-0 draw Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

After the long battle, the Warriors are now 3-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association North Division heading into Sunday's match against Cal State Monterey Bay. Cal State East Bay is now 1-2-1 and 0-1-1 in the CCAA.

The Warriors remain undefeated against Cal State East Bay since the Pioneers joined the CCAA with a 4-0-2 mark. The scoreless draw was very simiiar to the tie in 2010 in Hayward when the Warriors completedly dominated CSUEB but came up empty (after the last second goal was later erased).

In Friday night's match Stanislaus again out-played the Pioneers in every way, out-shooting 24-9 overall with seven great opportunities to score but wasn't able to find the back of the net. CSUS had an 11-4 shot-advantage in the first half alone. The Warriors also had eight corner kicks against five for CSUEB.

Pioneer goalkeepers Rene Martinez, who played the first half, and Bryce Bookhamer totaled six saves.

Defensively the Warriors were up to the challeng, holding the Pioneers at bay with just four shots on goal.

Sunday's match against Cal State Monterey Bay is at 2 p.m. The Otters lost 1-0 at Chico State Friday.
