Volleyball sweeps Humboldt State in home opener

TURLOCK -- In its first chance to play in front of the home crowd, the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team did not disappoint. The Warriors handled the Humboldt State Lumberjacks in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.

Andrea Fett had 12 kills to lead the Warriors as they only needed 29 total kills to put away the Jacks to improve to 4-5 overall and opened California Collegiate Athletics Association play 1-0.

As a team, HSU hit -0.086 with 28 errors on 93 attempts as the Lumberjacks dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Chipping in offensive for the Warriors are Kendal Munoz, Melissa Bishop and Jennifer Marsh each with four kills. Setter Munoz had 20 assist to go with team-high 10 digs. Ashley Pittman had eight digs with three service aces.

At the net, four different Warriors -- Jordan Harris, Bishop, Marsh and Fett -- had three total blocks apiece.

"It was nice to finally play at home with our supportive fans," head coach Christina Lore said. "Our team chemisty was really important for us and how well we worked together."

The Warriors were able to capitalize on the HSU mistakes and taking the momentum in stride. At one point in the third set Pittman served for nine straight points for a commanding 21-7 lead.

"We were very calm for the most part. We talked about working on the details," Lore added.

Cal State Stanislaus will try and open 2-0 in league play on Saturday when the Warriors host Cal Poly Pomona at 7 p.m.
