Lauren Godde scored 27 points as Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball matched last year's win totals in the second game of the season with a 78-77 win at Holy Names Saturday afternoon.
After 11 ties, the game was finally decided on the free throw line down the stretch after Godde equaled the scored at 74-74 with 1:17 to play.
Ana Burch and Godde each made two free throws down the stretch with Burch's final foul shot with seven seconds left as the difference.
The Warriors moved to 2-0 on the young season in 2013-14. They had opened the year with a 74-55 win over Cal Maritime on Thursday.
Godde was 9 for 15 from the floor and 8 of 10 on the line, plus a three-pointer to lead the Warriors with 27 points for her ninth 20-point game in her career. She also had six rebounds.
Nailah Davis also put in 14 points and pulled eight rebounds off the bench to pace the Warriors. Cal State Stanislaus' non-starters scored 49 of the 78 points in the contest.
Jasmine Washington chipped in 10 points with seven rebounds. She also had two steals and two blocked shots.
Cal State Stanislaus out-rebounded its opponents 51-36 and shot 39.4 percent from the field as a team.
Holy Names (1-1) was led by Sonia Aguilar with 23 points.
Cal State Stanislaus had a 9-point lead in the first half, but that was down to four at the break. Holy Names then used an early second half surge to build an eight-point lead at 11:47 to go (59-51). A 12-4 Stanislaus run tied the game up at 63-63 and a close see-saw battle ensued with no one leading by three points or more after that point.
Holy Names' Aguilar hit a three-pointer with 36 seconds left to tie the game at 77-77 for the 11th even score. After a missed jumper by Godde, she got her own rebound and got the ball in the hands of Burch who was fouled sending her to the line for a 1-and-1 with sevens left.
Burch made one of two for the win. Burch finished with seven points.
Riley Holladay, who led the Warriors with 18 points on Thursday, struggled with her shooting. She was 2-for-12 and finished with six points.
The Warriors will travel to Merced to take on UC Merced next Friday before hosting Chico State to open CCAA play the following Thursday night.
