Box Score TURLOCK — Cal State L.A. shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half to turn a close game into a 20-point decision as the Golden Eagles defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 79-59, Friday.
The youthful Warriors hung in for the first half and tailed 39-34 at the break, but Cal State L.A. outscored the Warriors, 40-25, in the second 20 minutes to improve to 16-10 overall and 11-8 in the CCAA. Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 2-22 and 1-18 in conference play heading into Saturday night's home finale.
Briana Cotton scored 16 points and
Natalie Winters had 11 to lead the Warriors.
Lauren Godde chipped in 10 points with five rebounds and
Erin Godde had six rebounds.
Cal State L.A. used a 16-5 run to start the second half en route to a 16-point lead six minutes into the period. The Golden Eagles ended up connecting on 15 of 25 field goal tries and finished the game 49.1 percent shooting. The Warriors, on the other hand, were 6 of 25 in the second half.
Cal State Stanislaus did make nine three-pointers, led by Cotton's 4 of 10 shooting from behind the arch. Winters had two of those treys.
Tessondra Williams, who is second in the CCAA in scoring, had 19 points to lead the Golden Eages. Paige Melville scored 15.
