TURLOCK — In a defensive battle — where the sides took few shots — the visiting San Francisco State Gators came out on top 2-0 Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

Two second half goals lifted the Gators as they improved to 3-3-1, 2-2-1 CCAA while Cal State Stanislaus fell to 2-4-1, 1-4-0 in conference play. The Gators won in Turlock for the first time since 2007 and the first time inside Warrior Stadium after five tries (1-3-1).

SF State got on the board with a Andrew Ogilvy goal at 56:36 assisted by Kevin Johnson. Sam Merritt then made it 2-0 in the 75th minute after Jorge Valadas intercepted a Warrior pass.

Each team only took seven shots apiece with SFSU a 3-2 edge on corner kicks. The Warriors out-shot the Gators, 3-1, in the first half. SF State had four shots in game, giving CSUS goalkeeper Clint Long two saves in the loss.

Cal State Stanislaus was shutout for the third time in the last five matches and will look for much better results on Sunday when it host Cal State Monterey Bay, which lost 3-1 at Cal State East Bay Friday night.
