TURLOCK — The Cal State East Bay Pioneers came into the building with some swagger, having won six of their last seven games including Friday's win at Chico State. However, the home team Warriors humbled the visitors in the end, pulling out a 68-63 victory Saturday.
Lauren Godde and
Riley Holladay both matched their jersey numbers in points and rebounds for double-double performances as Cal State Stanislaus moved into a three-way tie for second place in the CCAA. The Warriors improved to 7-3 in conference play and 10-4 overall.
The Warriors snapped a four-game losing streak to East Bay in the head-to-head series.
No. 13 Godde scored 13 points with 13 rebounds and Holladay, who wears No. 10, scored 10 and grabbed 10 boards to lead the Warriors. Godde also dished five assists and blocked two shots.
Briana Cotton nailed a season-high four three-pointers for 12 points.
Ana Burch also scored 10 to go with four assists, two blocks and four steals.
Stephanie Lopez led the Pioneers (10-7, 7-3 CCAA) with 15 points and seven assists. The Pioneers were 6-1 in their last seven games including a five-game winning streak before last Saturday's loss at Cal State San Bernardino.
It was a see-saw battle for almost the entire game. CSUEB led by seven half way into the second half as the biggest margin at 54-47 when Lopez hit a three-pointer.
The Warriors answered that with a 6-0 run -- including five points from Holladay -- to pull within one. After a Pioneer bucket, a Cotton trey and another Holladay layup gave Stanislaus a two-point lead.
Godde's three-pointer at 1:45 left started the Warriors' final surge that highlighted a 9-1 run late in the game for the Stanislaus victory.
Stanislaus held East Bay to 36.6 percent shooting on the night, including holding the Pioneers to 10 of 33 in the second half.
