LA JOLLA — The much-improved Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team snapped yet another long streak as veteran Lauren Godde and rookie sensation Riley Holladay led the Warriors over UC San Diego, 78-69, Friday night.

The win was the Warriors' first against UC San Diego since 2003, snapping a 20-game skid against the Tritions.

Cal State Stanislaus begins the new year where it left off in 2013 as the Warriors improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors are now in a four-way tie for first place after the previously unbeaten Cal Poly Pomona Broncos lost at Cal State East Bay.

Riley nailed all three of her three-point tries and finished with 16 points and Godde went 7-for-14 for 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Warriors. Briana Cotton scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half while Ana Burch chipped in seven points on two three-pointers. Cassidy Sanders-Curry also had seven rebounds.

The Warriors converted on nine three-pointers on 22 attempts for a sparkling 40.9 percent from behind the arc. The Warriors also out-shot UCSD overall, 48.3 percent to 37.3.

The Cal State Stanislaus defense again caused havoc as the Tritons (6-3, 3-2 CCAA) committed 20 turnovers — giving the Warriors 18 points off Triton miscues.

After a tight first half — where the teams tied the score 11 times — the Warriors turned a five-point halftime lead into a 12-point advantage on a 11-4 run to start the second period. Holladay's three-pointer at 15:45 gave Stanislaus a 50-38 lead.

UC San Diego got within two points with 5:21 left to play, but another CSUS trey — this time by Alysa Valentine — sparked the Warriors as they surged ahead in the final minutes for the win.

Miranda Seto led UC San Diego, also with 16 points.

Cal State Stanislaus had ended the 2013 calendar year with an overtime win over Chico State on Dec. 21 to sweep the Wildcats for the first time in CCAA play.

The Warriors will try to make it three-CCAA wins in-a-row Saturday night at Cal State San Bernardino, which fell to 1-7, 0-5 CCAA on Friday against Chico State. Another long streak is on the line on Saturday as the Wariors will seek their first win inside CSUSB's Coussoulis Arena since 2004.
