Schedule Notes: The Warriors have an outside shot at hosting a CCAA tournament first round match on Sunday, currently scheduled for a 11:30 a.m. start. Should the Warriors end up fourth in the standings following Thursday night's play, Warrior Stadium would be home to a first round match against the No. 5 seed.
Series Notes: Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay are meeting in the season finale for the second straight year. The Pioneers won last year in Turlock, 2-1, in overtime for their first win over the Warriors during the CCAA era. Cal State Stanislaus holds the series advantage 5-1-2 and are 2-1-1 at home against East Bay since CSUEB joined the CCAA in 2009.
Last Time Against the Opponent: Last Nov. 3, the Warriors dropped a 2-1 overtime match against Cal State East Bay.
Jose Ramirez tied the match in the 76th minute but Derrek Duke Driggs scored 6:53 into OT to lift the Pioneers.
Clint Long had three saves for the Warriors, but they were out-shot 16-10.
What's At Stake: Thursday night's match will have a lot of CCAA tournament implications for the sixth place Warriors. The Warriors control their own destiny and will qualify for the tournament with a win. Here are the scenarios where the Warriors could still play in the CCAA tournament:
• A Stanislaus win and ties by UC San Diego (vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills) and/or Cal State San Bernardino (at Chico State)
• A Stanislaus tie and a Humboldt State (at Cal State Monterey Bay) tie or loss
• A Stanislaus loss and a Humboldt State loss
What About a Sunday Home Game? Well, there is a chance that the Warriors could finish as high as fourth place in the CCAA standings with a win on Thursday, coupled with losses by both UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino. Finishing fourth would give the Warriors a home match on Sunday, Nov. 2 in the first round of the CCAA tournament.
See CCAA StandingsIn the Ranks: In this week's NSCAA polls, the Cal Poly Pomona is at No. 10 in the nation with Cal State L.A. at No. 15. They are also No. 2 and No. 3 in the West Region, respectively, behind Seattle Pacific … The Warriors are still not ranked in the top 10 by the NSCAA or the NCAA regional advisory committee, which means for the Warriors to qualify for the NCAA tournament, they would have to win the CCAA Championship, just like they did in 2012.
No-So-Mello-Yellow: Sunday's match against Cal State Dominguez Hills saw a total of 45 fouls with seven cautions and two ejections with two Toros receiving red cards. The Warriors were charged three of those yellow cards and 23 fouls. Cal State Stanislaus still leads the conference with 45 cautions in 2014 (but no red cards). CSUDH is second with 41 yellows and five reds.
Ramirez Top Scorer: Jose Ramirez, who scored the OT game-winner on Sunday, continues to lead the team in scoring now with five goals. He had six scores last season and one as a freshman in 2012, giving the junior a total of 12. He is now tied for fourth in the CCAA career list and is just five shy of tying the scoring mark of 17 (Victor Regalado).
About Cal State East Bay (4-8-5, 0-6-4 CCAA): The Pioneers are still seeking their first CCAA win. Aside from a non-conference match against Antelope Valley on Oct. 21, CSUEB has gone 0-4-2 in its last six matches with two goals scored … The Pioneers rank 11th with seven goals during CCAA play … Chris Lara has 6 of the teams 22 goals (2 of 7 during CCAA games).
