Box Score TURLOCK — For the first time in 13 meetings, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks were able to earn a victory as the visitors scored a late goal and held on to defeat Cal State Stanislaus, 1-0, in men's soccer Friday night.
Chuck Pitts' score in the 72nd minute was the only shot that found the back of the net as the much-improved Humboldt State side improved to 7-1-1 overall and remains undefeated at 3-0-0 in conference play. The Warriors suffered their first defeat in the California Collegiate Athletic Association this season (1-1-1) and are now 3-4-2 overall.
Like it has been for eight of the nine matches this season so far, the Warriors had more shots and scoring chances against their opponents. However, Stanislaus was not able to take advantage of the 14-7 shot difference.
At 71:51, Pitts ended the scoreless match mostly by himself, dribbling around five defenders before booting in the score. HSU goalkeeper Javier Torres picked up all four Stanislaus shots on goal while Warrior goalie

The match got heated late, after the 1-0 score, as three Lumberjacks received yellow cards within a five-minute window. In the end, the foul count was 17-16, HSU.
Cal State Stanislaus had a 12-match unbeaten streak against Humboldt State before Friday at 11-0-1 incluidng three straight wins.
Sonoma State, which played Cal State East Bay to a 2-2 tie on Friday in Hayward, visits on Sunday with a 6-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 CCAA records.
