Chris Read lead Cal State Stanislaus with 21 points as the Warriors defeated Bristol University of Anaheim, 78-70, Friday night in an exhibition game.
Christian Bayne scored 11 and
Wes Bartole had nine points and game-best nine rebounds to lead the defending conference champions.
Rob Walters also scored eight points and pulled four rebounds as the Warriors out-rebounded the Bears, 42-24.
Bristol made a late push in the second half by nailing a number of three pointers to cut a 20-point Stanislaus lead into a 69-68 game at 4:21 left to go. Bristol briefly took over the lead at 70-69 on a Brandon Chavers jumper, but Stanislaus responded.
Read led the late-run by outscoring the Bears 9-0 to close out the game.
Johnny Earl, who had five of the team's 10 three-pointers, led Bristol with 23 points while Bryan Mahood added 21.
Cal State Stanislaus opens regular season play next weekend at the PacWest/CCAA Challenge hosted by Dominican. The Warriors will face Dominican Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in San Rafael.
