11/9/2014 3:01:00 AM

Box Score LOS ANGELES — Cal State Stanislaus had four players reach double figures in kills and never gave up in the match, rallying from behind to force a thrilling fifth set before its upset bid falling just short at Cal Stae L.A. Friday night.

Led by Blair Ehrlich, who had 15 kills, the Warriors rallied before dropping the 27-25, 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13 set to a much-better Cal State L.A. team. The Golden Eagles survive the major scare to improve to 16-7 overall and 14-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association to remain in third place in the CCAA.

The Warriors, unfortunately, dropped to 2-22, 2-18 in conference play despite the amazing effort.

The match featured some huge momentum changes, especially in the final two sets.

Cal State L.A. took a tight first set even though Cal State Stanislaus held a set point at 24-23, but a kill by Bero tied it up. A kill by LA's Kelsey Molnar made it 25-24, but a kill by Lindsay Skadeland tied it at 25-25. A kill by Kymberly Silveyra gave the Golden Eagles a 26-25 lead and an attack error gave them the set.

Cal State Stanislaus won the second set with a 5-2 run to close the game behind two more kills by Skadeland. An error by LA's Loreal Carter ended the set at 25-21.

After the Golden Eagles won the third, they looked to have the fourth set firmly in command until the Warriors staged a big rally to force a fifth set. A kill by Carter gave the Golden Eagles an 18-10 lead and a kill by Gomez kept the lead at 21-15 and a kill by Carter made it 22-17. The Warriors, though, turned things around with seven consecutive points and eventually wrapped up the set on a kill by Ehrlich, who had three kills during the late surge.

Cal State L.A. took a 6-1 lead in the fifth and moved to 8-4 until another run by the Warriors. Ehrlich started the rally ahead of four straight Golden Eagle attacking errors. A Sarah Crowl service ace made it 10-8. But the Golden Eagles scored five straight points to take control and the match ultimately ended on a service error.

Aside from Ehrlich, Courtney Lewis had 11 kills to go with four total blocks (1 solo) while Taylor Massengale and Skadeland each finished with 10 kills. Jocelyn Cervanted chipped in nine kills as well.

Rachel Parsons set a career high with 48 assists and Hailey Gruetzmacher had 20 digs for her second 20-dig match in three contests this week.
