Box Score TURLOCK — Don't tell these guys that this was a non-conference match. The contest between two familiar foes felt like a California Collegiate Athletic Association event, but after 110 minutes of soccer, nobody scored and teams walked away with a 0-0 draw.
Evan Drake grabbed nine saves for Cal State Monterey Bay (1-2-1) to keep the Warriors off the board despite Cal State Stanislaus (2-2-1) taking better shots and had better scoring chances for most of the contest.
The Otters did have some golden opportunities of their own, especially late in the first overtime period. A Chris Koski attempt was punched out by Stanislaus goalkeeper
Clint Long. Duce Bell then followed with a strike that hit the right post and a Nick Stanley shot attempt for CSUMB was blocked by a Warrior defender for a crazy sequence that almost sent CSUMB home happy.
Those three shots werethe only real attempts by the visiting Otters. Before then, Long didn't even need to pick up a save as none of the CSUMB 10 tries during regulation came close to the net. In the final seconds of the second OT, however, another strong try by CSUMB was also nicely blocked and picked up by Long to account for his two saves.
The rest of the night belonged to the Warriors in a ball-control match. In the early goings, the Warriors were 7-for-7 in shots on goals but came up empty.
Josue Barajas made a couple of great runs early — in the 9th and 26th minute marks — but was not able to finish.
In between shot attempts, there were a lot of mid-field play and a lot of pushing and shoving and bodies hitting the pitch. The physical contacts eventually led to all 22 players on the field converging near the CSUMB goal at the end of the first half as they exchanged a lot shouting. However, no cautions or fouls were issued during the altercation.
Cal State Stanislaus will play in its final non-conference tune-up on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Academy of Art. The match will be play at the Boxer Stadium in Balboa Park in San Francisco.
