The Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team will begin its 2014 California Collegiate Athletic Association campaign this week with matches at San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.

Series Notes: Cal State Stanislaus will try to even the series record on Friday in San Francisco. SF State leads the head-to-head record 11-10-4 and are 7-3-2 in those matches played in its Cox Stadium. The Warriors won at Cox Stadium last year and have beaten the Gators in two out of the last three meetings ... The Warriors beat Cal State Monterey Bay twice last year to extend the winning streak over the Otters to five matches during CCAA play. The teams did meet on Sept. 16 in a non-conference match in Turlock and played to a scoreless draw to move the overall series head-to-head record to 12-5-4 in favor of Stanislaus.
Last Time We Met: The Warriors defeated the Gators, 2-1, on Oct. 20, 2013 in San Francisco.
Willie Gomez scored just before the half and after SFSU tied the scored in the 53rd minute,
Zack Jens scored the eventual game-winner in the 79th minute ... Stanislaus and CSUMB met two weeks ago in Turlock in a non-conference match in an well played, exciting, but physical match that ended scoreless.
Back to the City, Again: Cal State Stanislaus is making the short bus ride over to the City By the Bay for the second time in a week. The Warriors played Academy of Art on Saturday at Boxer Stadium, just about 3 miles East of the SF State campus.
Acosta Provides Offense: The Warriors have only scored two goals in their last three matches (out-scored 4-2 and went 0-2-1) and
Jose Acosta scored them both. The sophomore from Manteca, who transferred from Delta College, netted the goal in the 2-1 loss against Cal Baptist on Sept. 13 and scored the lone goal last Saturday in the 2-1 loss versus Art U.
Deuces are Wild: Three different players now have scored two goals each, joining
Jose Acosta in the total count.
Manny Villegas and
Josue Barajas have also two goals to their name. Both of Barajas' goals came in the 4-1 win at Simpson on Sept. 9.
Spreading Out the Help: Six different Warriors have been credited with an assist each as the offense have spread the wealth in helping the scorers.

Gerardo Cazares,
Luis Hernandez,
Matthew Waldron,
Rafael Chavez and
Larry Hernandez each have an assist.
Two-Goalie System: While
Clint Long has seen most of the minutes in-game,
Russ Klabough has also seen some playing time guarding the net. Long has started in all six matches and played 470 minutes with Klabough entering the match to play in the second half twice (against Simpson and Academy of Art).
Keep On Blasting: Cal State Stanislaus is out-shooting its opponents by nearly a 2-1 ratio. The Warriors have taken 128 shots to the other teams' 63. The shots per match average is 21.3.
About the Gators (3-1-1, 0-0-0 CCAA): San Francisco State has gone unbeaten in three matches with two wins and a tie. They beat Colorado Christian at Billings, Mont., on Sept. 14, 3-0, and defeated Dominican, 2-1, at home on Sept. 16. SFSU played Notre Dame de Namur to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 19 ... Three different Gators have two goals each (Jakob Veiega, Sam Merritt and James Aquirre).
About the Otters (1-2-1, 0-0-0 CCAA): The Otters have not played a match since the 0-0 tie in Turlock on Sept. 16. They do host Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday prior to the CCAA weekend ... Duce Bell has two of the team's four goals.
