HAYWARD — A late Cal State Stanislaus run gave the Warriors a chance but the rally wasn't enough for them to overcome a 15-point deficit as Cal State East Bay handed the Warriors another narrow defeat Saturday night.
Cassidy Sanders-Curry notched a double-double but the Warriors dropped a 58-55 decision to the Pioneers to fall to 5-11 overall and 3-9 in conference play. Cal State Stanislaus will get a chance to rebound with a four-game homestanding, starting with Cal State Dominguez Hills next Friday.
The loss was the Warriors' second game decided by four points or less in the final seconds. They let one get away Friday night in Seaside for a 63-59 loss in overtime.
At Hayward, Sanders-Curry led all Warriors with 14 points and 11 rebounds for her second career double-double, first of this season.
Riley Holladay also chipped in 14 points, tying a season-high and
Alysa Valentine made three three-pointers and finished with 11 points.
Briana Cotton, whose consecutive free throws made streak ended with her first attempt on the night, was 3-for-4 from the line and just 2 of 14 from the field for eight points. Cotton had made 17 straight free throws entering Saturday's game. She is still 29-for-32 at the foul line during CCAA plays this season.
Cal State East Bay used a 12-0 run in a three-plus minute windown early in the second half to build a 15-point lead, 45-30, at 10:32 after a Laci Effenberger three-pointer. The Warriors did cut that lead down to four on an 8-0 run that featured six straight points from
Jasmine Washington.
The Pioneers would get back up by nine points at 2:19, but Stanislaus do rally again. Valentine's three-pointer capped a 7-0 run to make it 54-52 with 30 seconds left. The Warriors got as close as 56-55 after a Holladay free throw with two seconds left, but a pair of Alyssa Palma free throws in the final second ended the game.
Tori Breshers led CSUEB with 14 points and Stephanie Lopez added 10 points and 12 rebounds as the Pioneers improved to 11-7 and 6-6 CCAA.
