Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stanislaus men came up short in another tight game vs. Pomona

POMONA — It was another close game between the Warriors and Cal Poly Pomona — and this time the Broncos came out ahead as the host rallied in the final minutes to edge Cal State Stanislaus, 60-57, Saturday night in Kellogg Gym.

Jordan Faison accounted for all seven points in a 7-0 Cal Poly Pomona that turned a five-point 56-51 Stanisalus lead into a two-point Warrior deficit with 1:07 left to go.

Trailing by one, Clinton Tremelling's three-point shot in the final second that would have given the Warriors the win, but the shot was off. Shey Mataele could have tied the game at the free throw line, but he missed one of two at the line to keep the game at 58-57 with 48 seconds left.

Cal State Stanislaus was held without a field goal — and just one free throw — in the final 3:01, after Mataele made a layup to stretch the Warriors lead to 56-51. That's when Faison single-handedly took the game over on the 7-0 run.

The Warriors, now 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the CCAA, lost on the road in a conference game for the first time this season. They had won their last six CCAA road games dating back to the end of the 2013-14 regular season.

Rob Walters finished with 12 points and eight rebounds to lead Stanislaus. Wes Bartole also had 12 points. Mataele ended up with 11 while Chris Read added eight points. The Warriors were still without the services of Tyler Barber, who was starting to heat-up on offense when he went down with an injury on Dec. 13 against Chico State.

Faison ended up with 15 points and Terrance Drisdom led the Broncos (8-3, 4-2 CCAA) with 22 points.

Stanislaus and Pomona have been in some very close games head-to-head lately. The Warriors won twice last season in overtime, including the West Region championship semi-final game when Cal State Stanislaus beat the Broncos 75-69 to advance.
