Cotton surpasses 800-point milestone, but Warriors lost to CSUSB

TURLOCK — The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes used a strong second half to pull away late as the visitors defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 67-52, Friday night at Fitzpatrick Arena.

Briana Cotton picked up the offensive slack for the Warriors as she scored 21 points to lead all players. Cotton, a senior from San Jose, became the eighth Cal State Stanislaus player to surpass the 800-point career points mark. She now has 815.

The Warriors, however, dropped their third straight game after the thrilling overtime win at Chico State on Dec. 20. Stanislaus is now 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State San Bernardino improved to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the CCAA while snapping a two-game skid to the Warriors in the head-to-head match-up.  The Coyotes were led by Brianna Harden's double-double with 13 points and 18 rebounds.

Cassidy Sanders-Curry had 13 points and eight rebounds to pace the Warriors. She scored all her points in the first half on 5 of 7 shooting but managed only one shot in the second half. Alysa Valentine had eight points and five rebounds.

The Warriors allowed CSUSB to go on a 7-1 run late in the first half for a 34-25 lead. A pair of Alexica Mack free throws gave the Coyotes their first double-digit lead that they eventually stretched to 18 points on another Mack free throw at 3:09 left.

Stanislaus was without scoring leader Jasmine Washington, who averages 11.9 points per game.
