Jose Ramirez scored again and
Josh Jacobs scored his first career goal as the duo led the Warriors to a 2-0 win over Sonoma State late Friday afternoon.
The victory is the Warriors' first in Rohnert Park during the CCAA era as Stanislaus improved to 12-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Looking to solidify their position in the regional rankings, the Warriors will take their No. 5 West Region ranking to Humboldt State on Sunday.
For the time being, with 19 points, the Warriors are tied for third in the CCAA standings, one point behind Cal Poly Pomona and seven back of Cal State Dominguez Hills, which beat Cal State L.A. Friday night. to extend its lead with a 8-0-2 league record.
Stanislaus had gone 0-12-2 in matches against Sonoma State played in Rohnert Park before Friday.
Ramirez, who now has eight goals this season, runs his career goals total to 20 with a score in the 42nd minute to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Only current teammate
Daniel Kuczynski has more career goals than Ramirez at 21.
Jacobs, a defender, scored his first goal as a Warrior in the 85th minute off of a
Gerardo Cazares corner kick. Cazares is the CCAA leader now with seven assists.
Stanislaus out-shot the Seawolves (8-5-2, 4-4-1 CCAA) 21-14 and snapped Sonoma State's three-match winning streak.
Russ Klabough had six saves for the Warriors in earning his fifth shutout this season. SSU goalkeeper Mitch North recorded seven saves.
