Series Notes: The Warriors are seeking their first win against Cal State L.A. in the last four meetings (0-3-1). Last season, the Golden Eagles went 1-0-1 against the Warriors including a 0-0 CCAA semifinal match with Stanislaus State advancing with a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks. The last Stan State win over L.A. was Nov. 2, 2012, a 4-1 semifinal win in Carson en route to a Stanislaus CCAA championship … Stanislaus State has won three of last four against Cal State Dominguez Hills. including a double OT 2-1 win in Turlock last season. The one loss since 2011 came in 2013 — a 4-3 overtime decision in Carson.Within the Ranks: The Warriors moved up to No. 4 in the NCAA West Region poll this week. The Warriors (11-2-1 in region) are behind Cal State Dominguez Hills (12-1-2), Seattle Pacific (11-1-3), and Cal Poly Pomona (9-2-3). The No. 4 ranking matches the best mark for the team set in 2012 when the Warriors made the NCAA tournament … Stanislaus State received a vote in the NSCAA national rankings and moved up to No. 5, from No. 7, in the NSCAA Regional poll. Returning to the Tourney: The Warriors have earned an appearance in the CCAA Men's Soccer Championship tournament for the fifth time. It is their second consecutive trip — and fourth since 2011 under head coach Dana Taylor. Stanislaus State have had success in their last two appearances with a title in 2012 in Carson and played in the finals match last year at Warrior Stadium.
It's Okay to Be Road Warriors: The semifinals and championship match of the 2015 CCAA Championships will be held at Cal Poly Pomona, Nov. 6-8. It will mark just the second time since the opening of Warrior Stadium in 2009 that the tournament is not concluding in Turlock. That's okay with the Warrior men since they won the CCAA title in Carson in 2012, the only other time the CCAA postseason event was not at Stanislaus State.
What's at Stake This Week: A Stanislaus State win over Cal State L.A. and a Cal Poly Pomona loss vs. Humboldt State on Thursday — or two Stan State wins this week — mean the Warriors would be the No. 2 seed, thus getting a bye in the first round play-in match next Tuesday. Two wins and a Cal State East Bay upset win (or tie) over Cal State Dominguez Hills would give the Warriors the No. 1 spot.
Defender Named CCAA Player of the Week: In a rare feat, Josh Jacobs, a defender, was named the CCAA Player of the Week. That's because he scored twice, too. Jacobs scored a goal in each of the two road contests last weekend — both goals from corner kicks. Those goals were his career firsts as a Warrior. Jacobs was also the defensive unit that help led the Warriors to two more shutouts.
Speaking of Shutouts: The Warriors have recorded three straight shutouts, extending their streak of not allowing a goal to 281-plus minutes since losing 2-0 to Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 11. This season, the Warriors have set a new team record with nine shutouts. Russ Klabough is credited with six solo shutouts and shares three shutouts with Alex Valdovinos.
Scoring Leaders: Two current Warriors are now the top two scorers in Stanislaus State CCAA-history. Daniel Kuczynski leads with 21 career goals and 51 career points while Jose Ramirez is right behind him with 20 goals and 47 points.
Lots of Records to Update: Here are the team records set in 2015 by the Warriors — goals (47), assists (41), points (135), shutouts (9) in a season and goals (9), assists (8), points (26) in a match. The current team goals against average (0.80) and saves percentage (.854) are also the bests, so far. Additionally, the Warriors' seven match winning streak to start the year was also a team record to go with team-record 13 wins (and counting). Individually, Daniel Kuczynski set a record with 8 points in a match and tied record with three goals in a match. Gerardo Cazares has a record with three assists in a match and his eight assists this season is a new single-season mark.About the Opponents: Cal State L.A. (9-3-2, 6-3-1 CCAA) had its last home game back on Oct. 11, so the Golden Eagles will finish the regular season on a stretch of five matches on the road. They are 2-1 so far in those away games. L.A.'s success is based on its CCAA leading goalkeeper Anthony Perez who has a 0.55 GAA. He has only allowed six goals this season. Troy Dumiao leads team with six goals … Cal State Dominguez Hills (13-1-2, 8-0-2 CCAA) is the fifth ranked team in the nation according to the NSCAA. The Toros have out-scored opponents 39-13 this season. Mike Dias is third in the CCAA with eight goals. CSUDH has won seven straight and are 13-0-2 since losing 3-0 to open the season against Point Loma.
