CHICO — Stanislaus State continues its best start in program history as the Warriors improved to 10-1-0 on the season after the 1-0 win over Chico State Sunday afternoon.
Luis Hernandez again supplied the offense and scored the lone goal as he led the Warriors to their third consecutive one-goal victory. The win also give the Warriors sole possession of first place with a 5-1-0 record in the CCAA standings, one point ahead of Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-0-2).
While the high-flying offense slowed down its scoring pace a little bit, the Warriors are still playing great defense winning the low-scoring close matches. Hernandez's goal just before halftime provided the only goal Stanislaus needed on Saturday against rival Chico State. Stanislaus has won two straight after going 0-3-2 in the previous five meetings.
Chico State (4-4-1, 2-2-0 CCAA) took 11 shots but only one on frame as the Stan State defense while
Russ Klabough only needed one save for the win.
As for Hernandez, he's now scored two goals with two assists in the last three matches. He now has three goals and five assists on the season.
As a team, the Warriors have now scored 36 goals after 11 matches, tying a team record for goals in a season set in 1998.
Stanislaus returns home to host three more contests, beginning with Friday's CCAA match against Cal State San Bernardino. It will be Greek Night and Pack the House Night at Warrior Stadium. The men's match is at 4:30 p.m.
