TURLOCK — The teams were locked up in an offensive battle, each scoring twice, but eventually the Warriors had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Cal State San Bernardino.
Stanislaus State even the score in the 81st minute as the teams played two overtime periods, but either team can come up with a goal for the tie. The Warriors are now 10-1-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Stanislaus is now in second place in the CCAA with 16 points, behind Cal State Dominguez Hills, which improved to 5-0-2 in CCAA play with a 2-1 win versus Chico State on Friday.
Cal State San Bernardino has not won a game since Sept. 18, but has come away with three ties in the last four matches to mark its records to 3-3-3 overall and 1-1-3 in the CCAA.
Jose Ramirez and
Gerardo Cazares scored goals for the Warriors while Stan State out-shot the Coyotes, 23-19, on the night.
Ramirez's goal came 51 seconds into the second half to make it 1-1. San Bernardino got a goal at 29:00 by Tony Lo to give the visitors the lead. A own goal was recorded in the 68th for CSUSB as a mishandle by a Warrior defender. Cazares then sent in the equalizer at 80:02 as he stole a ball from a Coyote and shot it in to the top of the box.
Russ Klabough was credited with six saves while CSUSB's goalie Ivan Sanchez had five.
Stanislaus State is back in action on Sunday as the Warriors host Cal Poly Pomona, which beat Cal State East Bay, 2-1, Friday.
