No. 7 Alaska Anchorage cools down Stanislaus shooting

Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The seventh ranked team in the country and its defense managed to shot-down and cool-off the Stanislaus State women's basketball team Saturday night as the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves defeated the Warriors, 91-42.

Inside the spacious Alaska Airlines Center, the Warriors shot just 26 percent, the night after making better than 58 percent of their attempts at Alaska Fairbanks. Stan State prevailed in overtime, 102-97 against the Nanooks. However, against UAA, it was the Seawolves made 11 three-pointers to run past the Warriors.

Cassidy Sanders-Curry led the Warriors (1-1) with nine points and eight rebounds and Ana Buch scored seven, but no one else had more than six points. As a team the Warriors were just 2-for-15 behind the arch and 14 of 23 at the line.

Jessica Madison led Anchorage with 19 points including five three-pointers. UAA pulled 21 offensive rebounds (47 overall) to create extra shots as the Seawolves took 25 more shots more than Stanislaus.

Stan State was making its first trip to Fairbanks, Alaska since 1999 and just the first time in Alaska since playing in Anchorage in 2008.

Next weekend, Stanislaus has a pair of away games on the road in the Bay Area at Academy of Art (Friday) and at Notre Dame de Namur (Saturday).
