SAN FRANCISCO — Playing against a Division I program for their first time in real game situations was a tall task for the Warriors but the Stanislaus State women played well early before falling to the University of San Francisco, 93-50, Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors trailed just 38-29 at the half and was within six points of the Dons late in the second period, but USF pulled away in the second half by out-scoring Stan State, 55-21.
Riley Holladay led the Warriors with 10 points and pulled five rebounds and
Taylor Faucett also scored 10 points to pace Stanislaus.
Ana Burch scored eight and
Cassidy Sanders-Curry chipped in seven points.
Jasmine Washington led the team with six rebounds. The Warriors were only out-rebounded by the Dons, 41-38, for the game.
USF was led by Anna Seilund with 20 points. Taylor Proctor had 11 rebounds.
The game gave the team and coaching staff a chance to experience the new four-period format in college women's basketball.
Stanislaus State will face two more Division I programs in 2015 with another exhibition contest scheduled for Dec. 8 at Fresno State. The Warriors will play at Pacific on Dec. 15 as well.
The Warriors begin the regular season next week with a two-game road trip to Alaska. They will face Alaska Fairbanks on Nov. 13 and Alaska Anchorage on Nov. 14.
