Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Win-streak snapped at Cal State Monterey Bay

SEASIDE — The Kelp Bed has not been kind to the Stanislaus State women's basketball team as the Warriors snapped their five-game winning streak with a 63-59 setback Friday night.

The Warriors have now lost seven straight games at Cal State Monterey Bay. The current version of the team is now 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, ending a five-game regular season contest streak. Tuesday's game at Fresno State was an exhibition game against a Division I team, as it will be the same case next Tuesday at Pacific.

Stanislaus State will have to go all the way back to Dec. 6, 2008 for its last victory over the Otters in Seaside. Since then, Monterey Bay is 7-0 at home against the Warriors, including last year's overtime decision, oddly, with the same exact 63-59 score as Friday night.

Taylor Faucett, the only Warrior with a decent shooting night, led the Warriors with 12 points. Ana Burch scored 10 points and Cassidy Sanders-Curry chipped in eight. Burch and Sanders-Curry each had two three-pointers.

However, as a team, the Warriors shot 31.9 percent for the night and just 5 of 19 from the three-point arch.

Meanwhile, the Otters (5-3, 1-1 CCAA) was 24-for-48 for 50 percent shooting from the floor. Victoria Dorn and McKenna Hill each had 13 points and Jazmine Johnson scored 12 points with eight rebounds. Monterey Bay also out-rebounded the Warriors, 46-35.

Faucett scored four straight points to cap-off a 12-0 run to give the Warriors a 54-58 lead at 6:09 left to play. But the Otters finished game on a 15-5 run, sparked by two three pointers by Dorn, to over-take the Warriors.
