SAN FRANCISCO —
Alysa Valentine was unconscious from the three-point line as she scored a career-high 26 points to led the Warriors to a 61-54 win at San Francisco State Saturday night.
Valentine made eight three-pointers, on consecutive attempts, to set two new Stanislaus State team records as the Warriors run their winning streak to five games and improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The senior guard, who had seven three-pointers for the season entering the night, was 8-for-9 from downtown (8-for-13 from the floor) and made two free throws.
She broke two Stanislaus records set by Lisa Minturn, when the Hall of Famer made seven consecutive three-pointers in a game on Dec. 10, 1988, against Point Loma Nazarene.
Both feats also tied the CCAA record as Valentine is now one of six players to make eight three--pointers in a game. The eight consecutive triples made in a game tied the mark set by J.J. Judge of Cal Poly Pomona (Dec. 18, 2012).
Cassidy Sanders-Curry scored 15 points with six rebounds and
Riley Holladay dished nine assists to help the Warriors.
Ana Burch, who was 6-for-6 from the foul line, chipped in 10 points.
Valentine loved living on the arch Saturday night. She missed only one three-point try — her very first attempt a minute and a half into the game — and did not miss again. She made four three-pointers in the second quarter to propel the Warriors to a 30-7 second period advantage to give the Warriors a lead as large as 17 points. She made back-to-back treys three minutes into the second, the first giving the Warriors' their first lead and the second extending the lead as part of a 14-0 Stan State run.
Another Valentine triple at 3:43 would start another Stanislaus 14-0 run just before the half as the Warriors took a 39-22 halftime lead.
San Francisco State (3-4, 1-1 CCAA) mounted a comeback in the second half with a 10-2 run in the third quarter and a 13-0 run in the fourth to cut the Warrior lead down to three, 51-48, with 5:05 to play. The Gators were led by Tatsiana Dashkevich and Laura Lawson each with 15 points.
But Stanislaus answered with an 8-0 run that included three-pointers by Sanders-Curry (the only Warrior trey not made by Valentine) and Valentine to stay ahead.
The last time the Warriors had a five-game winning streak was at the start of the 2013-14 season when they ran off to a 6-1 start. The 2000-01 team started 6-0 and the 1999-2000 team had a seven-game winning streak.
Stanislaus State will play at Division I Fresno State on Tuesday at the Savemart Center in an exhibition game. Game time is at 7 p.m. The next regular game is on Friday, Dec. 11 at Cal State Monterey Bay.
