Voumard tosses complete game, Warriors split at CSUDH

CARSON — Nick Voumard threw a complete game in the second contest of the CCAA doubleheader on Friday as the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team picked up a split against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

With two three-run innings, the Warriors won the nightcap, 7-3, after losing game one, 8-5. The Warriors are 6-9 overall and 1-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after the split.

Nick Molina's two-run homerun in the fourth inning capped a three-run Stanislaus rally for a 4-2 lead in game two. Molina's two-run shot fullowed a RBI double by Erik Colombini, scoring Patrick Mulry who had singled to start the ining.

The Warriors tagged on three more runs in the seventh, first with a leadoff solo homer by Scott Stetson. Mulry then drove in pinch runner Stevie Robinson with a sac fly and James Heller scored on a balk.

Voumard earned the victory going the distance in the shorten second game. He gave up two earned runs on eight hits and struck out four Toros. He was helped by his defense, which turned two double plays.

Marcus Mastrobuoni went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in in game one. He scored two runs in the third on a single to left that plated Nick Ippolito and Skippy Ferreria to help give the Warriors a 3-2 lead. Mastrobuoni would hit a solo homer in the eighth.

Cal State Dominguez Hills used three runs in the fifth to take over the lead 5-4.

Michael Chavarria and Ippolito each also had two hits in the first game.

Warrior starter Tyler Murphy suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in six innings.
