CARSON — In a game that featured 25 hits, 22 runs and eight errors, it was the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills out-slugging the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team in a 15-7 decision Saturday in Carson.
Cal State Dominguez Hills had every starter in the lineup with at least a hit en route to the offensive game — the third in the four-game set. The Toros increased their record to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while the Warriors fell to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the CCAA.
Scott Stetson and
Michael Chavarria each had three hits and
Nick Molina homered for the second straight day for the Warriors.
Skippy Ferreria went 2-for-5 as well.
The Toros had two five-run innings -— in the fourth and fifth — that followed a four-run third for the big margin. Matienzo went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in with two doubles and a triple to lead CSUDH.
In all there were three homeruns, a triple and eight doubles hit by the two teams. Cal State Stanislaus committed three errors and Cal State Dominguez Hills had five.
The series finale is on Sunday at 11 a.m.
