Stetson, Mastrobuoni went 3-for-4, but CSUS drops series finale

CARSON — Scott Stetson has found a comfortable spot in the batting order. As the leadoff batter for the third straight game, Stetson went 3-for-4 Sunday in the Warriors' series finale, 8-1, loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Marcus Mastrobuoni also went 3-for-4 but Cal State Stanislaus lost three of four in the four-game set and fell to 6-11 overall and 1-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Dominguez Hills jumped on starter Colby DeVries early with three runs in the first inning en route to bettering its record to 9-7 overall and 4-4 in CCAA play.

Stetson also went 3-for-4 on Saturday in the leadoff spot and 1-for-4 with a solo homer on Friday in game two, the first time he has inserted at the top of the lineup card. Those totals meant he was 7-for-12 as the No. 1 batter. With his 1-for-4 game in the series opener on Friday, Stetson was 8-for-16 (.500) in the four-game set against the Toros.

Mastrobuoni continues his hitting tear with a 6-for-11 weekend that included two doubles, a homerun and three runs driven in. HIs average was .545 with a 1.000 slugging percentage and was on base 69 percent of the time. He had also walked three times and was hit twice. Mastrobuoni did not contribute to the team's 21 strikeouts in four games.

In Sunday's finale, Cal State Dominguez Hills led 8-0 after seven innings before the Warriors put-up a run in the eight, thanks to a Toros error.

Stevie Robinson reach and moved to second on a throwing error by the CSUDH third baseman to start the inning and a Stetson bunt single set-up runners at the corners. Pinch hitter Christian Kahler then scored Robinson on a fly out to right.

TyRay Gatewood struckout the side in the Warriors ninth to end the game.

The Toros batted .344 and out-scored the Warriors 34-20 in the four-game series. The Stanislaus pitching staff was tagged with a 9.00 ERA.
