TURLOCK — Playing against a CCAA Championship tournament bound Cal State East Bay team, the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors hung-in and competed well before the Pioneers pulled away late for the 74-68 decision.
Cal State East Bay, which has already secured a spot in next week's conference tournament, improved to 17-10 overall and 12-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Pioneers got 24 points and eight rebounds from Stephanie Lopez and 18 points from Tori Breshers for their cause. Cal State East Bay shot a hot 55.8 percent for the game and out-rebounded the Warriors, 38-27.
For the Warriors, now 8-17, 6-15 CCAA, they were within one-point just before the final media timeout — but they went nearly three minutes without a score.
Alysa Valentine nailed a three-pointer at 5:37 for the 59-58 score, but a 6-0 run by the Pioneers gave East Bay back the lead.
Valentine finished the night with 16 points, her best night since scoring a career high 23 points against Cal State L.A. on Jan. 31. She also had six assist and two steals.
Riley Holladay had 14 points and was just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
Cassidy Sanders-Curry also netted 12 points, including six free throws on eight attempts.
Down by 10 with five to play in the first half, the Warriors rallied all the way back to make it a 40-39 game at the half after a pair of Holladay free throws. Stanislaus took over the lead, briefly, by two points in three different occassions. The final Warrior lead was at 14:24 in the second half on a Holladay layup to make it 48-46.
The Warriors will play in their final game on Saturday on senior night. The lone senior
Briana Cotton will be recognized in pregame. Cotton had six points Friday night to bring her career total to 947.
