Warriors end tournament play on high note with win

Tournament Results & All-Tournament Team

TURLOCK — The offense came together as the Warriors scored early to defeat San Francisco State, 7-2, to close out the Tournament of Champions on a high note on Sunday.

Cal State Stanislaus, which played a late game Saturday, had to play a consolation game early on Sunday with a 9 a.m. start. However, the bats were awake in the game at the Turlock Regional Sports Complex.

The Warriors scored five runs in the second on five hits, then tagged on two more in the third en route to the win. Stanislaus improved to 11-23 overall and returns to conference play — against these same SF State Gators — next weekend at home.

In the Stanislaus second, five consecutive hits that included a Gabby Dias RBI double that started the hit parade. Natalie Dorsey, Morgan Balestreri and Alexis McMahon also drove in runs in the inning.

Dias finished 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors offense.

Starting pitcher Jessica Varady continued her solid weekend in the circle. She went the distance and gave up two runs on seven hits for the win. For the tournament, the senior hurler posted a 0.95 ERA with a 2-1 record. She had 25 strikeouts, which was third best among all pitchers in the tournament.

Humboldt State went 7-0 in the tournament and defeated Western Washington, 6-1, in the championship game to win the title. It is the Lumberjacks' second straight tournament champions. HSU has won this event six times in 14 years of the tournament.
