Chico State sweeps Stanislaus in softball

TURLOCK — Despite out-hitting the Wildcats in game one, the Warriors dropped a tight 3-2 game in the first game of the doubleheader on Friday. Chico State then won the nightcap, 12-1, in five innings to complete the sweep.

Cal State Stanislaus has now lost five straight California Collegiate Athletic Association games and fell to 9-13 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

In the first game, the Warriors were led by Kailene Begonia and Nicolette Vizcaino each with two hits. However, two Chico State homeruns decided the game. A homer by Emily McEnaney in the fourth tied the game and a two-run blast by Desiree Gonzalez made it 3-2 for the Wildcats.

Jessica Varady suffered the loss despite going the distance and struck out seven batters. She gave up three runs on six hits.

In the nightcap Chico State scored runs in every inning but the first en route to the mercy rule win.

Tori Zimmerman had three hits, including two doubles, in game two to lead Chico State, which improved to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in the CCAA.
