Wildcats sweep twinbill, series over Cal State Stanislaus

TURLOCK — The Warriors and the Wildcats scattered 48 hits in Saturday's doubleheader as Chico State won both ends of the doubleheader with 8-5 and 9-4 scores.

With the two wins, Chico State took all four games in the CCAA series and improed to 12-4 overall and 9-3 in the conference. Cal State Stanislaus fell to 9-15 overall and 3-13 in league play.

In the opener, a total of 30 hits were pounded out in the eight-inning game. Chico State scored four times in the first inning but the Warriors responded with two runs with RBI singles by Jessica Varady and Alex Rowell.

Cal State Stanislaus tied the game in the seventh to make it 5-5 but also had chances to win with a walkoff. However, the Warriors left the bags full to send the game into extra inings.

Chico State scored three runs in the eighth for the win.

Nicolette Vizcaino and Varady both went 4-for-4 and Rowell was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in in game one to lead Stanislaus.

Rowell also went 3-for-4 and Vizcaino 2-for-3 in the nightcap, giving them both a solid day. Rowell ended up with five hits and Vizcaino had six on the day.
