Series Notes: The Warriors had gone 11-0-1 against Humboldt State before last season's 0-1 loss here in Turlock on Oct. 3. The Warriors are 11-5-1 all-time against the Lumberjacks … Against Holy Names, the Warriors are 2-0-0 but the teams have not met during the regular season since 2004. Stanislaus won 1-0 in 2004 and 4-0 in 2003.
HSU Match is Non-Conference: Saturday's match against Humboldt State will not count in the CCAA standings as it is a non-conference contest. The Warriors and the Lumberjacks were only scheduled to meet once during CCAA play on Oct. 25.
Protecting the House: Stanislaus State is already 2-0 at home this season and plans on defending its home turf like it did during the first three seasons in Warrior Stadium. From 2009 to 2011, the Warriors were 24-5-2 at home. The Warriors have 11 home matches scheduled. Saturday's home match will be the Warriors' second in the five-match home-stretch.
Kuczynski is Back: Daniel Kuczynski announced his return as a Warrior with a bang on Tuesday as he scored three goals in the team's 6-0 win over Simpson. Kuczynski, who also had two assists on the night, set a new Stanislaus single match record with eight points. His three goals also tied for the most in a contest. He is now second in the Warriors' all-time list with 15 career goals (Victor Regalado, 17) and 37 career points (Regalado, 41). Kuczynski was on the Stanislaus team in 2011 and 2012 before transferring to the University of Vermont.
Potent Offense: Through three matches the Warriors have already netted 11 goals with six different players scoring.
Manny Villegas and true freshman
Ryan Chaney each also has two goals. Last year, the Warriors totalled 18 goals. Stan State already has 55 shots after the 30-shot performance on Tuesday.
Technically Shutouts: The only two goals the Warriors — and
Russ Klabough — have allowed this season thus far were penalty kick scores by Academy of Art on Sept. 3. Unfortunately, statistically they still go down as goals allowed by Klabough, whose be tagged with a 0.800 GAA.
Another Good Start: The 3-0 start matches the feat set three others times during coach
Dana Taylor's tenure. The 2009, 2011 and 2012 squads all began the season 3-0. All three teams lost match No. 4 to go 3-1. No Stanislaus team has started 4-0 during the CCAA era.
About the Opponents: Humboldt State (1-2-0) defeated Holy Names 1-0 on Thursday for its first win of the season. Chuck Pitts scored for HSU late in the match, in the 85th minute. The HSU defense allowed six goals in its first two matches at home … Holy Names (1-1-0) opened with a 2-1 win over William Jessup. Tomas Horak and Toby Tomassi scored goals for the Hawks.
