Game Recap: Volleyball |

Stanislaus goes 5-0 with another straight-set road win

SEASIDE — The Stanislaus State volleyball team is just one win away from something the program has not accomplished in 16 years as the Warriors beat Cal State Monterey Bay in straight sets in a non-conference match Friday night.

Spoiling the Otters' home opener, the Warriors swept CSUMB 25-17, 25-15, 25-22, to improve to 5-0. Stanislaus will play at UC Merced Saturday night to try and go 6-0 to match the 1999 team for the best start during the CCAA era.

Thus far this season, three of the five victories were straight set wins on the road.

Three Warriors each had double digits in kills as the team hit better than .200 in attacks for the fifth straight match this season. Blair Ehrlich had 11 kills while Paige Walker and Jocelyn Cervantes each smashed 10 to lead the team. Taylor Massengale chipped in eight kills. Maddi Seidl had 31 assists to pace the offense. Stanislaus hit .231 as a team.

Hailey Gruetzmacher led the Warriors on defense with 17 of the team's 64 digs while Walker added 12. Cervantes also picked up 11 digs.

CSU Monterey Bay (1-4) was ed by Jessica Malcolm with eight kills.

Friday's match at Cal State Monterey Bay did not count towards the CCAA records as it was a non-conference match. The Warriors and the Otters were only scheduled to meet once during the conference season, on Oct. 9, in Turlock.

Saturday night's match at UC Merced is at 6 p.m. before the Warriors finally play a home match Tuesday night, hosting San Francisco State in the CCAA opener at 5:15 p.m.
