Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

High flying Warriors set records in 9-0 win over Holy Names

TURLOCK — The much-needed Central Valley rain wasn't the only thing that fell Monday Night at Warrior Stadium — a number of Stanislaus State records did, too.

The Stanislaus State potent, fast pace offense set three CCAA-era team records while Daniel Kuczynski set two himself as the Warriors handled Holy Names, 9-0, on a damp night to close out a stretch of nine soccer matches at Warrior Stadium in the last 11 days.

The Warriors' homestand isn't over, however, as they will open California Collegiate Athletic Association play this weekend hosting San Francisco State on Friday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. Stan State will enter CCAA play 5-0-0 for the first time.

Stanislaus State's nine goals is the most scored by a Warrior men's team since starting CCAA play in 1998 with a 8-0 over Cal State Hayward (now East Bay). Along with that are new team records with eight assists in a match and 26 points in a match.

Kuczynski, who had four scores and three assists last week, scored twice on Monday to become the Stanislaus CCAA era career leader in goals with 18 and points with 44. Stan State's overall record actually belongs to Jose Ramos with 57 career goals, set from 1988 to 1991 when the Warriors were in Division III before transitioning to DIvision II's NCAC in 1989.

Against Holy Names Monday night, Jose Ramirez also knocked in two goals and two assists. Gerardo Cazares played brilliantly and was credited with three assists. Manny Villegas scored his third of the season while three other Warriors — Ramiro Ceja, Luis Hernandez and Sean Baird — all scored their first of 2015. Willie Gomez, who also had an assist, converted on a penalty kick chance at 40:02 in the first half to also contribute to the scoring.

In just five matches, the Warriors have already out-paced last year's CCAA championship tournament finalist squad which scored 18 goals. The 2015 team has netted 24 goals while allowing just three (and two of those goals were penalty kick scores).

Kuczynski, the team leader with seven goals and four assists, isn't the only one scoring, obviously. A total of 10 different Warriors have scored a goal and four additional players have at least an assist

Friday night's CCAA home opener against SF State is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start. The Gators will come with a 2-5 record including a 3-0 win at Holy Names last Friday, Sept. 11.
