Stan State men open CCAA play with 2-0 win over SF State

TURLOCK — Showing off its quick-striking offense against a conference foe, the Stanislaus State men's soccer team's relentless attack resulted in a 2-0 win over SF State to start the CCAA season.

Daniel Kuczynski and Jose Ramirez netted goals for the Warriors as Stanislaus remains perfect after six matches. For Kuczynski, the NSCAA Division II college player of the week, it was the senior forward's eighth goal of the season — already.

San Francisco State (4-2-0, 0-1-0 CCAA) entered the contest with four shutouts and had only yielded one goal in its first five matches. Goalkeeper Emmanual Jimenez had posted a 0.20 goals against average before stepping on the Warrior Stadium pitch.

But with the potent offensive attack, the Warriors had chances early and finally knocked in a goal in the 12th minute to go up 1-0. With a lot of traffic with players from both sides in the box, Kucynski came up with the loose ball after a mad scramble to chip-in the goal.

The Warriors made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute with a Jose Ramirez header that came from Luis Hernandez and Rafael Chavez.

San Francisco State had a golden opportunity to get on the board in the 82nd minute when a penalty kick was awarded. However, Sam Merritt's attempt was stabbed away by a diving Russ Klabough to preserve the shutout.

Stanislaus State out-shot SF State 11-4 in the first half and ended up with a 24-12 advantage. The Warriors peppered Jimenez before the Gator goalie finished with nine saves.

Stanislaus is now 8-4-2 against San Francisco State in Turlock and beat the Gators for the first time since 2012.

Stan State's homestand continues on Sunday when Cal State Monterey Bay comes to town. The Otters beat Cal State East Bay, 2-1, Friday. It will be the Warriors' fifth straight home game and six of the season's first seven matches.
