TURLOCK — Out-lasting the Otters in near triple digits heat, the Stanislaus State men's soccer team had plently of offense in the second half to post a 4-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
The Warriors continue their explosive offense, scoring all four goals in the second half as Monterey Bay ran out of steam in the hot sun. Stanislaus remains undefeated at 7-0-0 overall and opened conference play at 2-0-0.
Stan State has recorded five shutouts this season including the last three games. In fact, the defense has not alllowed a score in 284 minutes and just one goal — against Humboldt State — in the last 464 minutes of play. The goal allowed to the Lumberjacks on Sept. 12 remains the only non-penalty kick goal given up by the Warriors this season.
Meanwhile the Warriors continues to pour on the scoring with 30 goals in seven matches this season. They are on pace to easily surpass the team's CCAA era record of 38 set in 1998.
Monterey Bay (4-2-0, 1-1-0 CCAA) played nine men on defense in the first half, which kept the Warriors' potent offense at bay with just eight shots without a score. But Stanislaus finally broke through in the second half, opening the scoring in the 48th minute on a goal by
Jose Ramirez.
The match stayed 1-0 until the 73rd minute — then the quick-striking Warriors scored three times in 13 minutes to put the match away.
Daniel Kuczynski converted on a penalty kick goal at 72:12 after he was pushed from behind in the box. The goal was Kuczynski's ninth of the season as he is still tied with Chris Hellmann of Lynn for the national lead. In the 81st minute,
Manny Villegas and
Ramiro Ceja connected on passed that led to a
Willie Gomez blast through the hands of the Monterey Bay goalkeeper Evan Drake. Villegas then knocked in a score in the 86th minute by dribbling around defenders for the final count.
Stanislaus will be on the road for its next four matches, starting with Cal State San Marcos and UC San Diego next weekend.
