SAN MARCOS — The high-power offense finally ran into a defense it couldn't solve as Stanislaus State dropped a 3-0 decision at Cal State San Marcos in its first CCAA road game on Friday.
The Cougars of Cal State San Marcos scored three goals during a 15-minute span in the first half to hand the Warriors their first shutout of the season. The Warriors suffered their first loss and are now 7-1-0, 2-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association before Sunday's match at UC San Diego.
Goals by Louie Farfan, Dustin Scibilia and Zach Olow late in the first half was all of the scoring on the day, but unfortunately for the Warriors they all came from the home team. Cal State San Marcos (3-2-2, 1-1-1 CCAA) has had a good week after the Cougars surprised Cal Poly Pomona with a 1-1 draw on Sunday and now the 3-0 upset over Stan State.
Stanislaus still out-shot CSUSM 11-8 on the day but the Warriors could finish a scoring chance.
The Cougars opened their scoring in the 28th minute with Farfan's score, then added a second goal in the 36th minute by Scibilia. Olow, who had assisted on the Scibilia goal, netted one in the 43rd to help CSUSM take a 3-0 lead at half time.
Stanislaus was coming off three straight shutouts where it out-scored oponents 15-0. The Warriors were averaging 4.3 goals a match in the first seven contests.
