Warriors post comeback win with two late goals

LA JOLLA — Jose Ramirez and Luis Hernandez hooked up twice in the second half as Stanislaus State scored two goals late to rally from behind to beat UC San Diego, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.

The victory marks the first time the Warriors come away with a W in La Jolla in nine tries (1-5-3) during the California Collegiate Athletic Association era. Stanislaus State runs its overall record to 8-1-0 and 3-1-0 in CCAA play.

The Warriors' offense got back on track late in the second half with two goals in less than two minutes after being shutout for the first time in 2015 on Friday at Cal State San Marcos.

Luis Hernandez got even with a goal at 78:17 with a left-footed shot after getting a pass from Jose Ramirez. Then Ramirez finished a Hernandez cross at 80:08 to give Stanislaus the lead.

UC San Diego (3-3-3, 2-1-1 CCAA) scored 28 seconds into the match on a nice cross and flick by Uly De la Cal and Zachary Lagotta with the goal by Riley Harbour.

The Warriors had out-shot the Tritons 7-3 in the first half but came up empty but netted two goals on four shots in the second half.

Russ Klabough recorded three saves for the Warriors.

The Warriors have to more road matches next week with a Wednesday match at Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m. before a Sunday contest at Chico State.
