SAN MARCOS —
Jordan Moineau followed her own corner kick and found the loose ball after a scramble in front of the net to score the winner as she lift the Warriors to a 1-0 double overtime victory at Cal State San Marcos.
The victory on Friday afternoon propelled the Warriors to a 2-0-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association record. They are also 6-1-1 overall. Cal State San Marcos, facing Stanislaus State in CCAA play for ther first time, held its own in just its third CCAA match of the program's history before falling to 1-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
Moineau's sudden victory golden score came with 7:36 left in the second overtime period. It was her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Moineau followed a rebound from a
Nicole Bare attempt which came off of the corner kick.
"We have worked hard this year on becoming a team that can manufacture goals on free kicks. It's great to see the pay off today," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "Jordan was absolutely fantastic today controlling the midfield. She is a box to box player who can score goals which is fantastic for our team."
The overtime win is the Warriors' second this season and the third time they've played in extra time. Stan State defeated Saint Martin's 4-3 in OT on Sept. 11 and tied SF State to open CCAA play on Sept. 18.
While goals have been hard to come by during CCAA action where teams play solid defense, the Warriors' defensive unit continues to stop the opposition to put-up shutouts. Friday's win was the Warriors' third consecutive shutout as they extended their streak of not allowing a score to 302 minutes.
Chelsea Lewandowski now has 22.5 shutouts in her career.
"Sometimes you just have to grind out wins on the road. I'm very proud of our effort today," Bolton said. "San Marcos was very determined defensively. They had 10 players behind the ball so it was difficult to break down."
Stanislaus State will face UC San Diego in La Jolla, where the Warriors won 4-2 last season. Sunday's match at UCSD is at 2 p.m. Stan State won the last three regular season games over the Tritions.
