TURLOCK — Have a night
Jordan Moineau. Against a former assistant coach and teammate, Moineau and the Warriors welcomed the Southern Oregon coaching staff home to Warrior Stadium with a 4-0 win Monday night.
Stanislaus State again out-lasted and out-played its opponents in the second half, this time rolling to an easy victory to improve to 2-1-0 overall before the weekend road trip to Washington.
"I was very pleased with that performance. We played well against a very challenging opponent," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "We really stepped up defensively and were very secure tonight. I like the leadership I'm seeing from
Chelsea Lewandowski,
Nicole Bare and
Nichole Donald."
Moineau, who had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over Fresno Pacific, has became the early-season scoring leader on the team by adding two more scores Monday. In the 58th minute, she was at the right spot for her first score on the night when her defender missed a clearing chance for Moineau to hit the net to make it 2-0 to get the Stanislaus offense going in the second half.
With the score already at 3-0, Moineau, a senior from Madera Ranchos, headed in a beautifully placed free kick from just in front of the home bench by
Dani Rodrigues for the exclaimation point of the night. That came in the 72nd minute.
"Jordan is an outstanding goal scorer. She has a nose for goal so I'm not surprised with her brace tonight," Bolton added while explaining that "brace" is a soccer term for scoring two goals in a match.
In between the two goals by Moineau, 2014 scoring leader
Jade Poon got on the scoreboard for the first time this season when she finished a rebound header from
Kirsten Coleman at 63:48. Coleman had received a corner kick from Rodrigues, who ended the match with two assists.
The Warriors had a 1-0 lead in the first half when
Nicole Larson sent in a 35-yarder that bounced off the cross bar in the 26th minute. The final shot count was 18-3 in favor of the Warriors — 13 of those shots came in the second half.
Head coach for Southern Oregon (1-2-2) is Jenni Rosenberg, who was Bolton's assistant from 2009 to 2012 and was a Warrior in 1999-2000. Her assistant Lauren Thronton was a four-year Stanislaus starter and was part of last season's West Region Championship team.
"I'm just so proud of Jenni and what she is accomplishing at SOU. Her team is well organized and plays excellent soccer," commented Bolton.
Stanislaus now travels north to Washington to take on GNAC teams Saint Martin's (Friday) and Central Washington (Sunday).
