TURLOCK — Despite peppering the Cal State East Bay defense and goalkeeper with shots, the Stanislaus State men's soccer team was unable to come away with a win as the Warriors fell to the Pioneers, 3-2, Wednesday night.
The Pioneers continue their success here at Warrior Stadium, winning their third consecutive match here on this pitch, to improve to 6-6-1 overal and 2-4-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors are still looking for their first conference win as they dropped to 1-8-3 overall and 0-7-0 in the CCAA.
An exciting second half with a lot energy from the Stan State side turned a low-action match in the first half into a thriller in the second.
Rafael Chavez scored twice for Stan State to challenge Cal State East Bay as the Warriors out-shot the visitors, 25-13 on the night.
After Cal State East Bay posted a 2-0 lead with penalty kick goals in the 29th and 56th minutes, the Warriors finally answer back. Chavez netted a goal in the 70th minute on a cross from
Sean Baird to make it 2-1.
The Pioneers answered that score quickly with a Preston Hale header from a VIctor Calderon free kick at 72:04 for the two-goal advantage.
Chavez, though, would bend a corner kick in the upper-left V in the 76th minute to make it 3-2.
The Warriors kept shooting before coming up just short despite their efforts. In the second half, Stan State out-shot CSUEB, 17-7.
Chico State (4-5-3, 3-3-2 CCAA) is the Warriors' next opponent as the Wildcats visit Friday night for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
