Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stan State falls again in one-goal, overtime match

TURLOCK — It was another close game for the Stanislaus State men's soccer team and unfortunately Chico State handed the Warriors another one-goal loss in a 2-1 double overtime match.

Omar Nuno scored his second goal of the match with less than a minute left to play to lift the Wildcats. Chico State won in Turlock for the first time in more than three years to improve to 5-5-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Warriors played in yet another close match, losing their seventh contest by a goal to fall to 1-9-3 overall and 0-8-0 in league play. Stan State has also played in six overtime games this season and is 0-3-3.

Stanislaus State, again, played well enough to win. The Warriors out-played the Wildcats for most of the game but once again came up just short.

Ahmed Mohammed tied the score in the 76th minute for Stan State to eventually sent the game into overtime. His goal had even the score after Nuno scored in the 27th minute. Nuno, now second in the CCAA in goals scored, would end the long event in the final minute of play with a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.

Until a couple of late runs by the Wildcats in regulation, Stan State had out-shot Chico especially in corner kicks with a 7-1 advantage in the first 90 minutes. In the end, the Warriors edge Chico State, 11-10, in shots.

Stanislaus will have another chance to get a win on Monday when the Warriors host Bethesda in a non-conference tilt. Match time is at 7 p.m.
